Yuruk

Yuruk rugs are Anatolian tribal carpets woven by the Yürük (nomadic) peoples of Turkey. These rugs are characterized by bold geometric designs, simple compositions, and strong natural colors, reflecting a nomadic weaving tradition. Yuruk weavings are valued for their authenticity and tribal aesthetic. In Turkey nomads are known as Yuruks. These pastoral nomads of Anatolia share an identity with certain tribes. They are thought to have Turkoman origins. Their weavings are all wool. Motifs are mixed and the rugs were woven in a very wide variety of designs and colors. However, Kurdish rugs have been mistakenly attributed to the Yuruks. The rugs woven by Yuruks can be recognized by their distinctive borders.
