A yurt is a portable circular tent used by nomadic peoples of Central Asia, constructed with a wooden frame and covered with felt or woven textiles. Textiles associated with yurts include rugs, bands, and decorative weavings, all playing both functional and aesthetic roles in the structure. The yurt is central to the lifestyle and material culture of many nomadic groups. The term Yurt is actually the ground on which a Turkoman tent is erected, however the word is often used to refer to the tent itself. This tent like structure is common with the Turkoman, Mongols, Kirghiz and other Inner Asia nomadic tribes.
