Tuduc (Tuduk)

Tuduc rugs are carpets associated with Teodor Tuduc, a Romanian restorer and producer active in the early 20th century. He became known for creating reproductions and imitations of antique oriental carpets, many of which entered the market as older pieces. Tuduc rugs are significant in the study of carpet authenticity and attribution. Theodor Tuduc (1888-1983) was a Romanian rug restorer that used to make many high quality reproductions of important antique rugs. Much of his weaving was done in his workshop in Brasov between 1919 and 1945. His workmanship was so brilliant that many of his works were acquired by important museums as authentic pieces. Only later on, following more serious researches in the oriental rugs history, these forgeries were discovered and these items were taken off the museum collections. Some of his works could still be found in the market.
