Suzani textiles are embroidered fabrics from Central Asia, particularly in Uzbekistan. These textiles are known for their large-scale floral motifs, vibrant colors, and chain-stitch embroidery techniques. Suzanis were traditionally used as decorative wall hangings, bed coverings, and ceremonial textiles, and are among the most important forms of Central Asian textile art. The term Suzani is used to describe embroideries than were done in the area known as Uzbekistan today. The word is in Farsi and the meaning is needlework. These Embroideries were done mainly by women and girls and in many cases they were part of dowries. They major cities for Suzani production were Samarkand, Tashkent and Shahrisabz, with the later producing the top quality. Most were made with cotton or linen background and silk embroideries.
