Polish Sash

Polish sashes are woven textiles historically worn as part of traditional dress in Poland and Eastern Europe, particularly during the 18th century. These sashes were often richly decorated with intricate patterns and vibrant colors, influenced by Oriental textile designs, especially from Persia. Polish sashes are important examples of cross-cultural textile influence. From the 16 Century onwards, brocaded silk sashes were integral to the formal dress of the Polish nobility. Owing much of the East in form and increasingly showing French Rococo influence in its decoration, the Polish Sash would eventually come to symbolize, with long tunic and shirt, the identity of a suppressed nation.
