The peacock is a decorative motif found in Chinese and other oriental carpets. In many cultures, particularly in Chinese symbolism, the peacock represents beauty, dignity, and prosperity. It is often depicted with stylized feathers and incorporated into decorative compositions. Peacock motifs add both symbolic meaning and visual richness to carpet designs. The peacock is associated with paradise and may also symbolize royalty. Peacocks may be found mainly in Chinese weavings but occasionally you can find it Persian and some Mughal rugs. See also Akstafa for the design of peacocks in tribal rugs of the Caucasus as well as Shahsavan rugs, and sometimes in Turkish weaving.
