Paotou (Baotou) refers to a town in Inner Mongolia, China, located near the Ningxia region. While not a major weaving center itself, the term may be associated with textiles or carpets influenced by the broader northern Chinese and Inner Mongolian textile traditions. Paotou reflects the geographic and cultural context of carpet production in northern China. A town of Inner Mongolia in China northeast of Ningxia. Rugs of Baotou and surrounding villages are more densely knotted than those of Ningxia and use more blue in their designs. Early Baotou rugs have all-over repeating patterns while later rugs are more pictorial.
