Melas
Melas rugs are Anatolian carpets woven in the Milas (Melas) region of southwestern Turkey. These rugs are especially known for their distinctive prayer rug designs, often featuring soft color palettes and unique geometric or floral motifs. Melas carpets are valued for their subtle beauty and regional character. The town of Melas lies on the southwest Anatolian coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Most rugs made in this region were prayer rugs with a very distinguished color pallet that contains an unusual amount of yellows. Other characteristic motif in Melas rugs is the unique shape of the Mihrab which repeats in most of these rugs.
