Marasali rugs are a type of Caucasian carpet associated with the Shirvan region of Azerbaijan. These rugs are often characterized by prayer rug designs, intricate geometric patterns, and fine weaving, typical of Shirvan carpets. Marasali rugs are appreciated for their precision and decorative complexity. Marasali is the name of a village south of Shemakha in the Shirvan region of the Caucasus. Most rugs of Marasali were made in a prayer design and repeated colorful paisley designs, in the field as well in the border. Good Marasali rugs of the 19 Century are very rare to be found and therefore highly in demand by collectors.
