Oriental Rugs Dictionary

Megri (Mekri, Makri)

Makri rugs are Anatolian tribal carpets associated with the Makri (Fethiye) region of southwestern Turkey. These rugs often feature geometric patterns, stylized motifs, and strong natural colors, reflecting the traditional weaving practices of Anatolian tribal groups. Makri carpets are valued for their regional character and decorative appeal. The town of Megri is located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, Southwest Anatolia. Most rugs were made as prayer rugs but in a very unusual unique matter these prayer rugs were divided into two none matching sections. These rugs are quite rare and highly appreciated by collectors.
