Kozak rugs are woven in the Kozak region of western Anatolia, Turkey, near Bergama. These carpets are part of the Anatolian village rug tradition and often display bold geometric designs, stylized motifs, and strong natural colors. Kozak rugs reflect the regional weaving practices of western Turkey. About 15 Miles north of Bergama lays the little town of Kozak. The name Kozak reminds one of Kazak in the Caucasus where the inhabitants originated. The techniques, motifs and colors of their rugs are closely related to Kazaks.
