Hilla (Chila, Khila)

Khila rugs are a type of Caucasian carpet associated with the Baku region of Azerbaijan. These rugs are typically characterized by fine geometric designs, intricate patterns, and clear, well-defined motifs, reflecting the detailed weaving traditions of the region. Khila carpets are appreciated for their precision and decorative balance. Hilla is the name of a town west of Baku. Hilla rugs were mostly made in a larger format and they are distinguished by the all over paisley design and the center medallion. These are rare items and highly in demand.
