Kars

Kars rugs are carpets woven in the Kars region of northeastern Turkey, near the Caucasus border. These rugs often show strong Caucasian influences, including geometric patterns, bold motifs, and rich colors. Kars carpets combine elements of Anatolian and Caucasian weaving traditions. A city of northeastern Anatolia near the border with Caucasus. Rugs woven in Kars have modified Caucasian designs. They are on an all wool foundation. They are coarsely woven and similar to Kazaks in construction as well as design. Kurds in the area weave rugs, but their products are not generally distinguishable from other Kars rugs woven outside of workshops.
