Karachopt Kazak (Karachof)

Karachopt Kazak rugs are a type of Kazak carpet from the Karachopt region in the southern Caucasus. These rugs typically feature bold geometric patterns, large medallions, and strong color contrasts, characteristic of Kazak weaving traditions. Karachopt Kazaks are appreciated for their powerful design and tribal aesthetic. The Kazaks from the town of Karachopt, south of Tiflis, are distinguished by their square shape medallion accompanied with four smaller square designs. The design resembles certain Anatolian rugs and probably has a Turkish origin.

In some occasions Karachopts appear in other designs and rarely as a prayer rug, such as in the sample below.

Green field Karachopts are favored by collectors and therefore more valuable.
