Kapunuk

Kapunuk refers to a type of Turkoman rug used as a tent door covering, similar in function to an engsi. These rugs were traditionally hung at the entrance of a nomadic tent (yurt) and often feature panelled designs with geometric motifs arranged in a structured layout. Kapunuk pieces are an important part of Turkmen tribal weaving traditions. Kapunuk is a pile fabric decoration hung across the top of Turkoman tent entrance. These decorative pieces may have tassels in the center or the ends. A curled leaf design is common in Ersari, Saryk, Tekke and Arabatchi Kapunuks.
