Italian rugs and textiles refer to woven and decorative fabrics produced in Italy, particularly during the Renaissance and later periods. Italy has a long tradition of textile production, including velvets, tapestries, and woven floor coverings, often influenced by both European and oriental design traditions. Italian textiles are known for their refined craftsmanship, rich materials, and decorative elegance, and played an important role in the development of European decorative arts. Rugs were woven by Italian peasants in the 18 and 19 Centuries. A variety of brocaded and embroidered textiles was produced for domestic uses. Most of these weavings were relatively narrow and were probably intended as furniture covers.
