Hilla (Chila, Khila)
Hilla rugs are associated with the Hilla region, historically connected to areas of the Caucasus and neighboring regions. These carpets belong to the broader group of Caucasian rugs, typically featuring geometric patterns and strong color contrasts. Hilla rugs reflect the regional weaving traditions of the Caucasus. Hilla is the name of a town west of Baku. Hilla rugs were mostly made in a larger format and they are distinguished by the all over paisley design and the center medallion.
