Halep (Aleppo) refers to rugs associated with the historic city of Aleppo in present-day Syria, which was an important center of trade and textile production in the Middle East. Although Aleppo was not a major carpet-weaving center like Persia or Anatolia, it played a significant role as a commercial hub where carpets from surrounding regions were traded and distributed. Carpets described as Halep may reflect a mix of regional influences from Anatolia, Persia, and Syria. Alepo Halep is the name of a city in northwest Syria which now is called Haleb (Khaleb). Under the Ottoman rule, in the late 19 Century many fine kilims were woven in this area. Many of these kilims were made with silk yarns and metallic threads. The following are two rare samples on Aleppo workmanship.
