Deer

The deer is a decorative motif occasionally found in Chinese carpets and other oriental textiles. In Chinese symbolism, the deer represents longevity, prosperity, and good fortune. The animal may appear within landscape scenes or decorative compositions that incorporate animals and natural elements. The motif reflects the strong connection between symbolism and decorative art in Chinese textile traditions. Images of deer are used in rugs of Persia and India mostly in hunting design items. In Chinese rugs the image of deer may suggest longevity or wealth.
