From 16 to 18 Century carpets were made in the Syrian region under the Mamluk influence. Most of these carpets were made in repeated designs therefore they are also known as Compartment Rugs. Damascus carpets refer to rugs associated with Damascus in present-day Syria, which historically served as an important cultural and commercial center in the Middle East. During certain periods, carpets linked to Damascus display influences from Persian, Anatolian, and Islamic decorative traditions. These carpets often feature geometric or floral patterns reflecting the artistic styles of the region. Although Damascus was more widely known as a textile and trade center, the term Damascus carpet is sometimes used to describe historical carpets associated with the region.
