Daghestan

Daghestan refers to rugs woven in the Daghestan region of the Caucasus, located along the western shores of the Caspian Sea in present-day Russia. Carpets from this region belong to the broader group of Caucasian rugs and are known for their fine weaving, geometric patterns, and vibrant colors. Many Daghestan rugs feature repeating motifs, medallions, or lattice designs typical of Caucasian village weaving. Because of their detailed patterns and strong regional character, Daghestan carpets are highly regarded among collectors of Caucasian rugs. Daghestan is the name of a region in the Caucasus that includes the town of Derbend. Most of the old rugs of this type were made in a prayer design with an all over lattice design pattern.
