Court Rug

Court rugs are carpets produced under the patronage of royal or imperial courts, often in specialized workshops. These carpets were typically woven with high-quality materials, refined designs, and exceptional craftsmanship. Examples include court carpets produced during the Safavid dynasty in Persia, the Ottoman court in Turkey, and the Mughal court in India. Chinese, Persian, Turkish or Mughal rugs commissioned by the ruling court. Usually these were large rugs woven in workshops owned or sponsored by the ruler. These rugs are characterized by the highest standards of workmanship and great sophistication of design. Court rugs were used in royal residences and court buildings and presented as royal gifts, frequently for diplomatic purposes. Most of the rugs in various museums are believed to be originally Court Rugs.
