Chrysanthemum

The chrysanthemum is a floral motif frequently found in Chinese carpets and textiles. In Chinese symbolism, the chrysanthemum represents longevity, autumn, and scholarly refinement. The flower is often depicted in stylized form within medallions or repeating field designs. Because of its symbolic meaning, the chrysanthemum appears in many traditional Chinese decorative arts. This flower is used as a motif in Chinese carpets and symbolizes long life. It may be used in combination with the plum, bamboo and orchid. In the rugs of India, the chrysanthemum is represented with naturalistic realism in Mughal carpets.
