Chajili rugs are a type of Caucasian carpet associated with the weaving traditions of the Shirvan region. These rugs typically display fine geometric designs, repeating motifs, and vibrant colors, characteristic of many Caucasian weaving styles. Chajili carpets are admired for their precision and decorative balance. A group of 19 Century rugs attributed to Shirvan in the Caucasus that display three or more large octagonal medallions. The medallions more closely resemble rectangles with clipped corners than true octagons. The medallions are in alternating light and dark colors. Knots density is high. Wefts may be cotton or wool.
