Bezalel rugs are carpets produced in Jerusalem, associated with the Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts, founded in the early 20th century. These rugs were part of an effort to create a modern Jewish decorative arts tradition in Palestine while drawing on older Persian, Turkish, and regional Middle Eastern design influences. Bezalel carpets often combine traditional oriental rug formats with motifs adapted for a new artistic and cultural context. They are important both as textiles and as examples of early 20th-century artistic revival movements in Jerusalem.
