Bergama

Bergama refers to rugs woven in and around the town of Bergama in western Anatolia (Turkey). Bergama carpets are known for their bold geometric designs, strong tribal motifs, and vibrant natural colors. The rugs produced in the surrounding villages vary widely in design but typically reflect the traditional Anatolian weaving style. These carpets are often admired for their powerful visual impact and strong regional character. The town of Bergama is located in Western Anatolia north of Izmir.

The rugs made in Bergama resemble in a way the Kazaks and Gendje rugs of the Caucasus without any Persian influence. Color pallets were limited to the local availability of red blue and white, but finest wool were commonly used with the works.
