Avunya refers to rugs woven in a region of western Anatolia in Turkey, often associated with the Bergama weaving tradition. These carpets usually feature bold geometric motifs, strong tribal designs, and vibrant natural colors typical of Anatolian village weaving. Avunya rugs are closely related to other carpets produced in the Bergama area. In 1923 the little town of Avunya was renamed Ezine. Carpets produced before this date are still referred to by the old name. They can be easily identified by their wide or even square format and consequently squat Mihrab.
