Art Nouveau

The decorative style of Art Nouveau flourished in the last decade of 19 Century. It influenced the design of architecture, graphics, and domestic furnishings. A return to high standards of craftsmanship was a goal of this movement. The style is characterized by the exuberant use of plant forms (stems, vines, leaves, flowers) attenuated and integrated into the shape of the object. Art Nouveau was an international decorative style popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is characterized by flowing, organic lines inspired by natural forms such as flowers, vines, and leaves. In textile and carpet design, Art Nouveau motifs often include curving floral patterns and asymmetrical compositions that reflect the movement’s emphasis on natural beauty and artistic craftsmanship. The style influenced many decorative arts, including carpets produced in Europe during this period.
