Anhalt Medallion Carpet

The Anhalt Medallion Carpet is a famous 16th-century Persian carpet currently housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It is named after the Anhalt family, in whose possession the carpet remained for many years before entering the museum collection. The carpet features a large central medallion surrounded by elaborate floral and arabesque motifs typical of the Safavid period, when Persian carpet weaving reached a high level of artistic refinement. It is considered an important example of classical Persian court carpets. It has a knot density of 400 asymmetric knots per Sq. Inch. The warp is cotton and the weft is silk. The size of this carpet is Apx. 26-6x13-7 Ft.
