All-Over Pattern

An all-over pattern refers to a carpet design in which motifs are repeated continuously across the entire field without the use of a central medallion. The pattern flows evenly from one end of the rug to the other, creating a balanced and uninterrupted decorative effect. All-over designs are common in many Persian carpets, including those woven in Heriz, Mahal, and Afshan design carpets, where repeating floral or geometric elements fill the field. This style became especially popular during the Safavid period and later in carpets made for large interior spaces.
