Afshar rugs are woven by the Afshar tribe of southern Persia (Iran), particularly in the regions around Kerman and Sirjan. The Afshars are a Turkic-speaking tribal group who settled in this area following migrations during the Safavid and later periods. Afshar rugs are typically small to medium in size and are known for their bold geometric medallions, deep red and blue color palettes, and compact weaving structure. Designs often include stylized floral and tribal motifs arranged within diamond-shaped medallions. Because of their strong tribal character and rich colors, Afshar rugs are highly appreciated by collectors of Persian tribal carpets.
