Admiral Carpets

Admiral carpets refer to a rare group of early Spanish carpets from the 15th century, believed to have been produced during the period of strong Moorish artistic influence in Spain. These carpets often combine Islamic geometric patterns with emerging European decorative motifs. The name “Admiral carpets” is associated with the belief that such carpets were commissioned or used by high-ranking officials, possibly including naval admirals or members of the aristocracy. Spanish carpets of this period represent an important transitional stage between Islamic weaving traditions and European Renaissance decorative arts.
