Esphahan (also spelled Isfahan) is one of the most important Persian carpet-weaving centers, located in central Iran. Carpets from Esphahan are known for their fine weaving, elegant floral designs, and intricate medallion compositions. Many examples are produced using high-quality wool and silk. Esphahan carpets reached their artistic peak during the Safavid period in the 16th and 17th centuries, when royal workshops produced some of the finest Persian carpets ever made.
