Karachopt Kazak (Karachof)

The Kazaks from the town of Karachopt, south of Tiflis, are distinguished by their square shape medallion accompanied with four smaller square designs. The design resembles certain Anatolian rugs and probably has a Turkish origin.

In some occasions Karachopts appear in other designs and rarely as a prayer rug, such as in the sample below.

Green field Karachopts are favored by collectors and therefore more valuable.
