Court Rug

Chinese, Persian, Turkish or Mughal rugs commissioned by the ruling court. Usually these were large rugs woven in workshops owned or sponsored by the ruler. These rugs are characterized by the highest standards of workmanship and great sophistication of design. Court rugs were used in royal residences and court buildings and presented as royal gifts, frequently for diplomatic purposes. Most of the rugs in various museums are believed to be originally Court Rugs.
