Anhalt Medallion Carpet

A 16 Century carpet of Northwest Persia. It formerly belonged to Dukes of Anhalt of Dessau and is now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, New York. This carpet is in excellent condition. It has a circular lobed medallion with pendants on a yellow field of arabesques with leaves, blossoms and palmate. Among the arabesques are peacocks with plumage displayed. It has a knot density of 400 asymmetric knots per Sq. Inch. The warp is cotton and the weft is silk. The size of this carpet is Apx. 26-6x13-7 Ft.
