Shirvan

Rugs from the prolific carpet weaving district of Shirvan have characteristics of both Kazak and Kuba groups. The top ends are not cut to form a fringe, and the bottom fringe is either knotted or braided.

There are many settled Armenian in Shirvan so rugs often have cruci form motifs as well as stylized animals and Persian influenced border patterns.

Eastward, along the shores of the Caspian Sea, the population was mainly Muslim and there was a large production of prayer rugs, often featuring diagonal lines of white across a dark colored ground.
