The Kurds, although related to the Persians both in language and religion, are somewhat autonomous group, to be found in Iran, Iraq, and Turkey. The carpets of Kurdistan reflect the varied lifestyles of the weavers, who may be nomads or city and village dwellers.

In the villages live many Kurdish tribal groups. The tribal designs can easily be distinguished from those of other Persian Kurdish rugs, such as Bidjar and Senneh.

Kurdish weavings are also to be found around Meshed. The Kurds mainly inhabit Bujnerd, Quchan, and Kalat.
