ORIENTAL RUGS DICTIONARY

Butterfly Saddle Rugs

Tibetan or Chinese saddle rugs woven in trapezoidal shape. The corners of the shorter parallel edge may be rounded. The overall shape suggests a butterfly with spread wings.  Please note that these items were woven in two different sections and joined after the completion of the weaving. This practice assured that the pile is facing down on both sections, for convenience of the rider and durability.
