ORIENTAL RUGS DICTIONARY

Amritsar

Although there is no ancient tradition of carpet making in Amritsar, the city was a prolific carpet producing center during the second half of the 19th Century, in response to demand from both the domestic and export markets.

Most Amritsar carpets were woven in quite subdued colors, in comparison to other Indian carpets, a fact that brings these carpets to high demand by interior decorators.
