Yomut, Yomud

Yomut weavings has much more blue than any other Turkoman weavings and for a short period a vivid green was also used. Yomut guls are often worked in several colors, unlike archetypal Turkoman gul patterns, with a symmetrical use of different colored guls to achieve a diagonal pattern.

It is clear that different groups of Yomut had different weaving techniques with common features, which may account for the Yomut use of the "Tauk Noska" gul with four pairs of animals. These carpets are generally woven with a symmetrical knot, on a deep purple red field. Storage bags of all shapes and sizes are made, all with differing designs, but in general all have plain undecorated ends to the pile weave.
