Pomegranate

The pomegranate is thought to symbolize fertility in various cultures throughout Asia. Even the Jewish use pomegranate on their New Years eve to ask for fertility of good deeds.

The most common use of pomegranate in rug weaving was practiced in the weavings of East Turkistan. In eastern Chinese rugs, the pomegranate may be shown partially opened with the seeds exposed. This motif is called Liuka Baiza. Alpujarra rugs of Spain depicted the pomegranate as a symbol of Granada, which is the Spanish word for pomegranate.
